Meru Press Club drew 1-1 with Watanashati Meru Wasanii FC in a friendly soccer match at the famous Kinoru stadium.

The two teams played to a barren draw in the first half.

Meru Press Club were the first to draw blood when they scored a few minutes after the start of the second half.

The press men who had a solid defence led by the infatigable Edward Muriki often tried counter attacks which eventually paid off after they were awarded a penalty in the second half.

Duncan Mwathi popularly known as Kathee Mantuni was brought down inside the 18 yard box prompting the referee of the match to blow the whistle before pointing to the box.

The scribes captain Dennis Dibondo showed credible composure and calm to convert the penalty with precision from a thunderous right strike, the keeper tried in vain to save it but it went far right into the top corner.

Celebrations erupted immediately from tens of football loving Meru fans who had showed up to witness the game.

The captain did a Diego Jota celebration after scoring to pay tribute to the late Liverpool Star who died a week ago in Spain after his vehicle veered off the road, crushed and caught fire.

Watanashati Meru Wasanii FC equalised through Samba Fresh in the dying minutes of the game after a hand ball from one of the players.

Meru Press Club keeper Benjamin Nyangule made fantastic saves to help the the press men hold on to a draw.

In another friendly match, Super Wasanii FC from Nairobi walloped Watanashati Meru Wasanii FC 3-1.

Super Wasanii scored one goal in the first half through Fidel Origa.

Watanashati Meru Wasanii FC equalised through a penalty from Dennis Tizo after he was brought down in the 18 yard box.

Fidel Origa scored the second goal to bag a brace and Mjukuu Mash managed to pounce one past the keeper to make it 3-1.

Meru Press Club have not lost this year after beating Tharaka Press Club 1-0 in a mental health tournament earlier this year and will use the unbeaten run to give them confidence and momentum ahead of Safaricom Media Tournament for Eastern Region slated for next month.
