Meru Governor Isaac Mutuma has urged Meru residents to shun unnecessary politicking and early campaigns and embrace the government’s development agenda.
Speaking during the official release of 1,000 sexed semen to farmers under the Meru Dairy and Cooperatives Union, the Governor said that premature political activity was undermining progress in the county.
“This is not the time for politics. It’s time to support the government so that Meru can benefit from development. Come 2027, people will have time to do politics. But now, we must work,” said Governor Mutuma.
The Governor’s comments come amid rising political agitation and growing tensions in parts of the county, with some leaders already engaging in early campaigns and anti-government rhetorics.
Governor Mutuma urged politicians and residents alike to remain focused on development, warning that unnecessary political distractions risk reversing the gains Meru has made in agriculture, infrastructure, and public service delivery.
“Politics without development is empty noise. Let’s build Meru first, then talk politics when the right time comes,” he added.
His remarks are being interpreted as a direct response to recent opposition sentiments and demonstrations that have disrupted peace and strained government efforts to roll out key programs.
By tying the call for unity to tangible benefits like the dairy sector investment, the Governor positioned himself as a development oriented leader seeking stability ahead of the 2027 general elections.
