In a swift and coordinated operation, Police in Meru have arrested three suspects believed to be behind the devastating arson attack on Maguna supermarket that occurred during the Saba Saba demonstrations on July 7, 2025.
The suspects including Ian Mugambi, Abdullatif Murithi, and Teddy Kaimenyi were apprehended during a well coordinated operation after being captured on CCTV footage engaging in acts of looting and arson at Magunas Supermarket.
The same trio is also linked to break-ins and theft incidents at Seven Eleven Lounge and Selenite Supermarket, which were similarly targeted during the unrest.
During the arrest, police also recovered a dark green motorcycle believed to have been used in the execution of the criminal activities.
In their Facebook page,the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has confirmed that the three suspects are currently in custody and are undergoing formal processing pending arraignment in court.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing and more arrests are expected, as the hunt for additional suspects intensifies.
Law enforcement officers have vowed to remain vigilant and ensure that those responsible for the acts of lawlessness face the full force of the law.
The arrests come amid heightened concerns over growing insecurity and politically motivated violence in the region.
Last week, 70 suspects were arraigned in a Meru court where they were charged with various offences following the demonstrations.
