More than 60 teams will battle for county titles in eight eastern region counties this weekend ahead of Safaricom Chapa Dimba football tournament regional finals next month.
The season five matches will be played on Saturday and Sunday across Isiolo, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, Machakos, Kitui, Makueni and Marsabit counties to select teams that will face off in the regional play-off.
Winners in both the boys’ and girls’ categories will each take home Sh75,000 and earn a place in the playoffs, while runners-up will pocket Sh30,000 alongside other individual awards.
“After a successful regional tournament in Nyanza, we are excited to take Chapa Dimba to the Eastern Region for the county finals,” said Football Kenya Federation (FKF) National Coordinator Oliver Kiptoo.
He added, “About 64 teams from across the eight counties will battle it out for county titles. All is set and we are looking forward to witnessing great talent and exciting matches over the weekend.”
In Meru, City Vultures Academy will face Mikinduri Stars FC, while Igane Juniors take on CCM Giantune Boys in the boys’ category.
Akuune Queens will battle it out with Mwariama Queens, as CCM Giantune face Timberyard Queens in the girls’ category.
In Isiolo, MAFA Academy will play Towfiq FC in the boys’ category, while Garbatulla Queens will square it out with Bridge Starlets in the girls’ category at Kiwanjani Grounds.
Kitui has 16 teams competing for the county titles, where defending girls’ champions Syomunyu Queens will face Young Starlets.
In Machakos, Matuu Homeboys are meeting Masii Boys Senior School, even as Golden Football Academy take on Koma United in the boys’ category.
Kyumbi All-Stars Queens are playing Kibauni Ladies, while MCF and Kisooni Queens will meet in the girls’ category.
Embu has eight teams, Marsabit (four), Makueni (six) and Tharaka Nithi (eight) teams seeking to progress to the regional stage.
The Eastern Region finals will be held on October 2 and 3 in Embu, bringing together the top teams from the eight counties.
Chuka University Scorpions from Tharaka Nithi and Syomunyu Secondary School from Kitui were crowned the Eastern region champions of Chapa Dimba Na Safaricom season four.
