Residents of Gakuthari village in Nyaki East Ward, Meru County, have protested over the poor state of local roads, decrying years of neglect and a lack commitment from the authorities.

Among the most vocal local is Elizabeth Paul, an elderly resident who expressed deep frustration with the area’s Member of County Assembly (MCA), Jopshat Kinyua Muuna.

She accused the MCA of prioritizing political wrangles over essential service delivery to Nyaki East residents.

“I’m disappointed and tired. If our roads remain in this condition, I don’t see the need to vote again,” she said while expressing her growing disillusionment with the political process.

Village elder Francis Mikwa echoed her concerns, stating the roads have been in a state of disrepair “since time immemorial.”

He recounted a recent tragic incident in which mourners were forced to carry a deceased villager’s body over a long distance due to the impassable roads—a situation he blamed squarely on persistent leadership failure.

Resident Kithinji George remained cautiously optimistic, saying the situation could still be turned around if urgent repairs are initiated.

The community is now calling on MCA Jopshat Kinyua Muuna to take immediate action and push for the rehabilitation and upgrading of feeder roads in the area.

They warn that continued inaction could further erode public trust and deepen voter apathy.
