Kenyans and the Meru community in particular have been advised to ensure they support cooperative movements growth by electing credible leaders capable of advocating for the welfare of the farmers at national and local level.

The Director of Protocol in the office of the Deputy President Gedion Kimathi said the best way to progress as a country and society is by embracing the cooperative movement.

Kimathi at the same time challenged the Meru residents to join registered Sacco groups like coffee, tea, avocado among others in order to benefit financially.

Speaking at Kaaga Methodist Church grounds during the Meru Ushirika Day celebrations, Kimathi insisted that a slight error when choosing a leader can lead to collapse of many economically vibrant sectors of the country leading to inevitable poverty.

He called for the banking of the Kenya Kwanza government urging the Meru community to remain loyal and steadfast by supporting President Ruto and his Deputy Kithure Kindiki administration in order to benefit from the national cake.

“I urge the Meru community to continue supporting the Kenya Kwanza government in order to benefit from the government goodies. Miraa, coffee, avocado and tea sectors are thriving well due to the credible leadership currently witnessed in the country. Let ensure President Ruto and DP Kindiki are reelected in the forth coming election,” said Kimathi.

He added:

“You cannot slaughter a cow that is about to calf in order to enjoy delicious meat for only one day during the festivities. I advise you to be patient and wait until it calves to enable you enjoy the full benefits of milk and the newly born calf with it mother. That is why we should support DP Kindiki and President Ruto for a second term at all cost.”

Ushirika Day celebrations is meant to mark  the milestones attained since the cooperative movements were established.

Currently coffee is fetching an historical payment per kilogram of cherry, with farmers smiling all the way to the bank.

Kimathi lauded DP Kindiki and Meru governor Isaac Mutuma for supporting the cooperative movement and the farmers welfare.

The Head of Protocol in the DP office called on all the coffee stakeholders to safeguard the commodity against theft when being stored at the factory awaiting sale.

He insisted that coffee should be given police protection while being stored at the factory or on transit for sale.

“Let us end unnecessary drama of loosing coffee to theft. This vice must now come to an end by working together with the security agencies.

I will prioritise the farmers interest by ensuring that any outstanding issue raised is promptly and amicably resolved,” said Kimathi.
