By John Majau.Cooperatives and Trade Permanent Secretary Patrick Kibuli Mugambi has said Meru County is a role model in Cooperative movement and applauded the leadership for the milestone attained so far.

 PS Mugambi also pledged to spearhead the revival of the once vibrant Afya Millers in a bid to enhance the sector in the area.

He called on other stakeholders to support the revival process since it will be beneficial to the entire Meru Community and country.

Speaking at Kaaga Methodist church grounds during the Meru Ushirika Day, PS Mugambi advised residents to support their own industries by buying and consuming them.

“Meru is a model County in cooperatives movement. My accolades goes to the leadership for the milestone achieved.The  government is set to spearhead the revival of Afya millers at all cost. I urge the Meru community to support their own industries by buying and consuming it,” advised PS Mugambi.

He said 2000 coffee seedlings will be distributed in Meru County.


PS Mugambi confirmed President Ruto will preside over the national Ushirika Day event this coming Saturday.
He challenged the Meru residents to embrace crop farming like cocoa, avocado and coffee since they are very profitable.


“We shall soon revive cotton farming and ensure the cost of production goes down. Let me assure you that the cotton value chain will benefit the majority of our people,”  said the PS.

The PS Gitonga drummed up support for the reelection bid of President William Ruto and his Deputy Kithure Kindiki.


“I urge the locals and Kenyans to fully support Kindiki and Ruto government. By supporting the reeIection of the duo, Meru will continue to benefits from government goodies,” said the PS Mugambi.

Expressing similar sentiments, his Forestry counterpart Gitonga Mugambi also lauded Meru County for leading in cooperative movements countrywide.

He said organized cooperatives are performing well and urged residents to join them in large numbers in order to benefit financially. 

He challenged Kenyans to embrace tree farming due to the substantial economic benefits earned after selling fruit tree products like avocado.

He reassured the Meru residents that the government is set to distribute 5,000 avocado seedlings which will be issued to farmers to plant.

“We shall introduce the pioneer cocoa farming in Meru. It is very profitable. Once you embrace cocoa farming, be assured of leaping maximum benefits,” affirmed PS Mugambi.

PS Mugambi challenged the Mount Kenya West leaders to reciprocate for the political support they have enjoyed enjoyed from the Mount Kenya East by voting for the reelection of President Ruto and his Deputy Kindiki.

He said the gesture will set the stage for the ascendancy of DP Kindiki when Ruto completes his term.

“We have always supported Central Kenya leadership since independence. We are appealing to Mount Kenya west leaders and residents to reciprocate by supporting DP Kindiki. We want our son to become the president in the future president in the future,” insisted the PS.
