South Imenti, Central Imenti and Tigania East have recorded the lowest turnout in the ongoing nationwide enhanced continuous voter registration by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

The registration drive which kicked off on March 30 will close on April 28, targeting to net 88,071 new voters in Meru County.

According to a report by the electoral body, Central Imenti has the least turnout at 37 percent, South Imenti 40 percent and Tigania East 42 percent as registration nears its end.

The commission is targeting 13,190, 8,726 and 9,527 new voters in South Imenti, Central Imenti and Tigania East respectively but the regions are yet to net half of the numberS.

North Imenti and Tigania West are leading in the voter registration drive having recorded 83 percent and 81 percent of the targeted voters.

IEBC Meru County coordinator William Ndung’u said more than 47,000 people have registered in the last three weeks.

He appealed on more residents to turn out in numbers and register as voters before the exercise closes in a weeks’ time.
