Party of National Unity (PNU) Leader Peter Munya has assured his supporters that he would not abandon the gubernatorial race in 2027 as he intensified the popularization of his party in the county.
Speaking at Nkubu when he opened a PNU branch office, Mr Munya reiterated that he was focused on vying for governor and would not step down like he did in 2022.
Munya has called on more residents to support the PNU party so as to secure various elective seats in the next general election.
“I apologize for bowing out of the race in 2022. I did not do it out of selfish interest but the desire to serve the nation at the national level.
In Fact, I was to be the Azimio deputy president and we were assured of a win. However, the plan did not go our way,” Munya said.
While hitting out at the Kawira Mwangaza administration, Munya said the embattled governor had failed to meet the expectations of the voters.

“Under the current leadership, Meru has a myriad of problems. We assisted Kawira Mwangaza in winning the election because we believed she would be a better leader. However, she has failed. We want to fix the problems she has created,” he said.
Munya criticized Mwangaza’s relief programme dubbed Okolea saying she should be offering tangible solutions rather than emergency services.
“You cannot turn the government into a provider of relief services like the RedCross. The government has a lot of work to do including in roads improvement, education, agriculture, trade and more. I am sure she also admits that her administration has failed,” the former cabinet secretary said.
The PNU leader claimed he enjoys an approval rating of 70 per cent among all interested candidates in Meru county.
He said his gubernatorial bid was driven by good intentions rather than self-interest and greed.
