Laikipia East MP Mwangi Kiunjuri has said the government is set to hold discussion with the Social Health Insurance Authority in a bid to reduce the number of months one can pay to get the services.

He said after crisscrossing the country and listening to Kenyans, majority wants the number of months reduced in order to make it affordable.

Speaking at Mitheru chief’s camp in Tharaka Nithi County during an empowerment program, Kiunjuri said the government has reviewed the terms and will now allow Kenyans to pay four month premiums to access services.

The MP said that he has been tasked by President William Ruto and his deputy Kithure Kindiki with carrying out empowerment at ward level across the country.

He said in the 22 empowerment meetings he has attended, he has heard numerous complains from Kenyans that SHA is unaffordable to most Kenyans.

“I have done meetings in Nyandarua, Embu, Kirinyaga and Muranga and Tharaka Nithi. Ordinary Kenyans are saying that there is no need of being asked Sh6000 because many are poor and thus can’t afford it” Kiunjuri said.

Kiunjuri said despite the four months many Kenyans are asking for two months but the government is doing well.

“Am urging Kenyans to register in large numbers as they wait for the number of months to be reduced further. Those who are extremely poor the government will pay for about 1.5 million Kenyans,” Kiunjuri said.

On University education, Kiunjuri said the government has abolished classification in band one, band two and band three, four and five noting that all students will apply as they used to apply earlier.

“The one who will be paying more will pay Sh75,000 with most paying Sh20,000 and Sh28,000 and students are happy,” he said.

Kiunjuri said the university fee being paid now is lower than in the previous regimes.
