Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has declared that President William Ruto will only serve one term, saying Kenyans are determined to defend democracy and protect the country’s future.
Speaking at a dowry ceremony at Aspire Gardens in Meru County, Kalonzo said his presence in the region was a sign of how serious the opposition had become in challenging the government.
“Kenyans are watching and the whole world and I want you to know that if you see me here, there is no joke and we will save this Kenya and Ruto will be a one-term president,” said Kalonzo.
He explained that there was nothing unusual about a head of state serving for only one term if the people decided so through democratic means.
In addition, he pointed to international examples, noting that some leaders in countries such as Botswana had served single terms.
Kalonzo went further to issue a strong warning to investors seeking to acquire public corporations.
He claimed that state assets, including the Kenya Pipeline Company, were being unfairly targeted for sale.
He said that such transactions would not stand and any property acquired unlawfully would be reclaimed.
“You intending to invest ,if you want to buy public property and you buy it carelessly, we will refuse that and we will take back what belongs to Kenyans into the hands of Kenyans,” said Kalonzo.
The Wiper leader emphasized that Kenya must remain rooted in faith and under the protection of the Constitution.
Furthermore, he reminded the government that the Constitution could not be manipulated to suit political interests. He stressed that attempts to bend the law were unacceptable.
In addition, Kalonzo disclosed that he had spoken to former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua stating that he was expected back in the country next week.
He however alleged that there was a plot to arrest him once he arrived, following his controversial remarks about Al-Shabaab.
“Yesterday I spoke to Rigathi Gachagua and he said that he would return next week. We hear that there is a plan to arrest Riggy G when he is back so that he can record a statement explaining his utterances on the issue of Al-Shabaab and then throw him to jail for two days before injecting him to make him a zombie. They cannot tolerate Gachagua and we will not accept that,” said Kalonzo.
Kalonzo said that attempting to arrest Gachagua would destabilize the country as he warned that Kenya would not remain the same if the alleged plan were to be actualized.
Kalonzo instead urged authorities to allow Gachagua to return peacefully, saying this would demonstrate unity and respect for democratic freedoms.
Nonetheless, Kalonzo criticized what he described as the government’s growing intolerance toward dissenting voices.
He argued that Kenya should be an all-inclusive nation where every citizen has the right to express themselves without intimidation.
In his view, freedom of expression must be protected as long as it does not infringe on the rights of others.
“We want a Kenya which is all inclusive; You have the right to express yourself without harming others ,” said Kalonzo.
Kalonzo called on Kenyans to remain vigilant, defend democracy, and resist any attempt to undermine the Constitution or sell public assets carelessly.
He maintained that the opposition would not sit back and watch as the country’s future was compromised, insisting that leadership must always remain accountable to the people.
