The Office of Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has stepped up efforts to popularise Tigania East MP Mpuru Aburi’s National Ordinary People Empowerment Union (NOPEU) party across the Mt Kenya East region ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Gideon Kimathi, the Director of Protocol in the DP’s office, has been at the centre of mobilisation activities in Meru County, using a series of empowerment meetings to rally support for the outfit.
During a NOPEU aspirants’ engagement forum at the party’s regional offices in Meru on Tuesday, Kimathi urged Meru voters to unite behind the party, describing its growth as a notable political milestone.
“Forming a party that adheres to regulations, popularising it, strengthening it and recruiting members until it attains national parliamentary status is not a mean achievement,” he said.
He added, “NOPEU party is national party since it has representation in parliament.”
MP Aburi, the party leader, dismissed what he termed the region’s history of political subservience, insisting the Meru community would no longer “blindly follow” larger voting blocs.
“The Meru community will no longer be bystanders or follow the Kikuyu community blindly like it previously happened. Let us rally behind NOPEU, the only original Ameru party,” Aburi said.
He said the party plans to field candidates in all elective seats except the presidency.
More than 300 aspiring candidates from Meru and Tharaka Nithi counties attended the engagement forum, part of a series of regional activities shaping NOPEU’s 2027 election strategy.
Aburi described the meeting as a key step towards consolidating grassroots support.
“This engagement marks another bold step as we prepare our party and our people for a decisive and transformative general election,” he said.
He pledged that the party would conduct transparent nominations and offer equal opportunities to women, youth and other leaders.
Aburi applauded the growing number of aspirants expressing interest in running on NOPEU tickets, saying it signaled deepening trust in the party.
“To those who have underestimated us, mocked us or written us off, prepare for a political shock. The ordinary people are rising, and NOPEU is their vehicle. 2027 will rewrite the political map of our region.”
He urged supporters to remain united and maintain momentum as the polls draw closer.
The Meru forum is among several regional meetings the party says will shape its national campaign strategy ahead of 2027.
