President William Ruto has established a multi-agency team to fight corruption a day after accusing MPs of demanding fat bribes to pass bills and resolutions.
Through an executive order, President Ruto said the Multi-Agency Team on War Against Corruption was recommended for establishment in 2015 by the Taskforce on the Review of the Anti-Corruption Legal, Policy and Institutional Framework.
The team to be chaired by the Office of the President will comprise the Attorney General, National Intelligence service, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, Director of Public Prosecutions, as well as the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
Others are the Financial Reporting Centre and Asset Recovery Agency, Kenya Revenue Authority, Central Bank of Kenya and Public Procurement Regulatory Authority.
The team is tasked with enhancing collaboration among the government agencies involved in investigation and prosecution of corruption suspects as well as enhancing the anti-graft campaign.
They will also identify resource needs, share best practices in tackling corruption and develop effective communication strategies for awareness creation.
The multi-agency team secretariat will be led by the office of the attorney general.
