Farmers in Kibuline in Tigania West have received a major boost after the government issued 600 bags of Mavuno top-dressing fertiliser to improve agriculture in the area.
The consignment, received earlier today by Tigania West MP John Mutunga, at Kibuline Aggregation Centre, marks the second major fertiliser allocation to the centre this season.

Local officials and farmers representatives described the latest delivery as a crucial reinforcement that will help sustain crop performance at a time when many households depend heavily on agriculture for both food and income.
Speaking during the handover, the officials at the centre noted that the dual supply of planting and top-dressing fertiliser is expected to significantly enhance farm productivity and improve crop yields.
They MP also noted the distribution is part of a broader strategy aimed at safeguarding food security while empowering farmers to navigate seasonal challenges.
He noted top-dressing fertiliser, applied weeks after planting, plays a vital role in boosting soil nutrition and strengthening plant health.

The lawmaker said the move is part of the government plan to fight food shortage and increase food basket in the county.
” Agriculture is the backbone of our economy so we will continue to partner with the government to ensure farmers receive affordable fertilizer to improve the yields and boost the income of the farmers,” He added .
The MP who is also an agriculture expert, said nutrients depleted during early growth stages must be replenished to maintain crop vigour, improve resistance to pests and diseases and maximise production.
“For many smallholder farmers who often struggle to access quality fertiliser at the right time, today’s delivery couldn’t have come at a better moment this is exactly what our farmers needed at this stage of the season,” he said.
Farmers who gathered at the centre to witness the offloading welcomed the move, saying it will greatly ease the financial burden many face while also improving the quality of their harvests.
According to Faith Kinya during last year’s unpredictable weather patterns had taught them the importance of timely access to farm inputs, particularly fertiliser.
“We often plant with hope, but hope alone cannot feed our crop so guaranteed supply of approved fertiliser gives us confidence to aim for higher yields this year we are grateful because this support helps us take control of our farm work.” she added.
The MP reiterated its commitment to continue mobilising resources that promote sustainable farming practices. noting he will continue working closely with local leaders, agricultural officers, and suppliers to ensure the fertiliser reaches farmers promptly and without disruption.
