Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has defended the government’s development record, citing ongoing infrastructure and housing projects in Kilifi County as evidence of equitable distribution of resources across the country.
Speaking during a public sensitisation forum at Kakanjuni Trading Centre in Ganze, Kilifi County, Prof Kindiki said the government was keen on ensuring no region is left behind.
“President William Ruto has ensured that no region in Kenya is left behind or discriminated in matters of development because development in Nyanza, Western, Central and Rift Valley is the same as in the Coast, North Eastern and Nairobi. Every county is receiving equal development,” he said.

Speaking today 19 Match 2026, the DP noted that his tour in Kilifi North was aimed at inspecting key national projects, including an affordable housing programme in Kenzo where 1,000 units are under construction at a cost of Sh1 billion.
The project, he said , is expected to provide decent housing to families while creating employment opportunities for the youth.
Prof Kindiki further said the administration had made significant strides in reviving stalled infrastructure projects in the area.
“Since his election, President Ruto has taken just two to three years to begin transforming the economy of Kenya. His government has paid contractors Sh 177 billion and they are now back to work across the country constructing 6,000 kilometres of roads,” he said.

He said in Kilifi county, road construction was progressing steadily, with 385 kilometres earmarked for tarmacking.
“From Kilifi, Kakanjuni, Kasava, Kitengwani, Silala, Sangaweni, Ganze, to Banda, development are ongoing. Currently, 56 kilometres are being tarmacked, and contractors have already been paid Sh 2 billion and directed to complete the works within a year,” said Kindiki.
The second in command also highlighted ongoing electrification programmes aimed at boosting livelihoods and supporting small businesses.
“In Mpirani, 155 families will be connected to electricity in addition, Sh 2.1 billion has been allocated to connect villages across Kilifi County so that children can study effectively and businesses such as welding, barber shops and salons can grow the local economy,” he added.
Prof Kindiki at the same time added that the programme would connect 23,589 households across the county, with Ganze
constituency set to benefit from Sh 382 million targeting 4,000 homes.
Addressing a mammoth crowd, the DP affirmed that the government was also investing in market infrastructure to support traders, citing ongoing construction in Mtwapa, Watamu and Mnarani, with plans to begin work on the Ganze Market after Ramadan.

“Sh57 million has been allocated for the Mkuruni ESP Market, with more projects set to commence,” he said.
At the same time, the Deputy President dismissed critics of the government’s development agenda, saying they had failed in their time in office.
“Those leaders in the opposition speaking out do not understand the needs of Kilifi because they had the opportunity to develop this country but failed and now they should not mislead the public,” he said.
He also called for political unity, saying the country was moving forward under a broad-based government hence unity of the country is key for economical growth.
“President William Ruto has played a key role in uniting the Republic of Kenya. We are now moving forward as one team under a broad-based government,” he lamented .
He called cooperation between the ruling party and the opposition, particularly the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), saying collaboration would accelerate development.
“We are asking our brothers in ODM to continue strengthening their party as we also strengthen UDA. Together, we will move forward faster in building this nation,” he added .

He added that political competition between ODM and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) would remain cordial.
“The competition between UDA and ODM will be friendly, an election among brothers and partners. We will continue working together to build a stronger government for the people of Kenya,” he said.
