Kenyan chef Dorcas Kwamboka has received international recognition from Guinness World Records after setting a new record for the fastest time to make three chapatis, beating the previous mark by 43 seconds.
The global record-keeping organisation recognised Kwamboka, popularly known as Doky Dorcas or the Chapati Queen, in a social media post celebrating her achievement and identifying her as a Kenyan chef based in Ongata Rongai.
Guinness World Records described her as a chef passionate about food, cooking and breaking records, noting that her love for making chapatis inspired her to put her skills to the test.
Kwamboka celebrated the recognition on Facebook, taking a swipe at those who had questioned the authenticity of her certificate while expressing hope that the government would appreciate her contribution to promoting Kenya internationally.
“Those who doubted my certificate, saying anything is possible in River Road, mbona mmenyamaza?” she wrote showing the certificate

She said she was not done pursuing records and hinted at another attempt, expressing determination to continue showcasing her talent to the world.
“Another record breaking on the way. Chapati Queen is not yet done breaking records,” she added.
Despite the international recognition, Kwamboka said she hoped her achievement would attract greater support, using humour to highlight the financial challenges that can accompany such accomplishments.
“Umeweka country kwa global map, lakini kwa bank statement bado ni local news!” she joked.
She added: “Guinness World Record holder by day, ordinary mwananchi by night! Certificate ni international, lakini sponsorship bado iko kwa prayers!”
Kwamboka said she was proud to represent Kenya and her county on the global stage, noting that her name had travelled beyond the country’s borders.
Beyond her record-breaking feat, she is the founder of Mpenda Ngano Kitchen, an online culinary business specialising in authentic Kenyan cuisine.
The business prepares meals on order for delivery or collection, offers outside catering for events and provides cooking services at clients’ homes.
Through the venture, Kwamboka combines her passion for traditional Kenyan food with entrepreneurship, serving customers during family gatherings, celebrations and corporate events.
Her achievement puts the spotlight on chapati, a staple in many Kenyan households, demonstrating how an everyday culinary skill can become a platform for international recognition.
