Kenyan Ambassador to Netherlands Ms Halima Mucheke has urged the youth in the country to embrace sports as a career and a decent source of income.
Mucheke said sports has currently become a multi billion investment venture employing thousands of people who are earning a decent income.
She urged the youth to embrace sports in order to uplift their living standards noting it is an alternative to formal employment.

The Envoy spoke at Kiamiriru primary school in North Imenti constituency, Meru County during Senator Kathuri Murungi “Kamashinani Foundation Football Tournament”.
Teams from Ntima West and Municipality Wards participated during the North Imenti Chapter.
” I urge the youth in Kenya to embrace sports as a career and a decent source of income in order to uplift their living standards. Sports is a multi billion investment venture employing thousands of people who are earning a decent income. This is the way to go because sports is an alternative to formal employment,” said Ambassador Mucheke.
She said sports pays well and should be taken seriously by both parents and children noting it is among the highest global income earners.
The Envoy encouraged the youth to fully exploit their talents emphasising that apart from keeping the players fit , it also brings the community together, unites the youth and uplift their living standards.
“Through sports, talent is tapped and nurtured as part of the journey to steer the youth to stardom. It is a life changing career away from normal classroom studies,” said Ambassador Mucheke.

She said sports has brought positive changes to the society where drug and substance abuse addicts reform and turn to sports as an alternative form of entertainment and source of income.
She urged the institutions of learning to also nurture sports in order to enable the youth to develop and sharpen talent at an early age.
She lauded Meru Senator Kathuri Murungi for promoting the youth through sports noting it is a sign of prudent leadership.
“With Hon Kathuri in Meru County, where the Senator, through his Kamashinani Foundation, is actively investing in our youth by sponsoring football, volleyball, and netball tournaments.
This is leadership in action, engaging the ground and delivering real impact,” noted the Envoy.
Ambassador Mucheke took time to highlight the several transformative development projects being undertaken in Meru County by the national government including the upgrading of Gakoroomone open air market at a cost of a billion shillings, upgrading of the Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital and improved prices of the farm produce among others.

She called on the residents to continue supporting the Kenya Kwanza government in order to enable it deliver it promises.
“We took the message directly to the people highlighting the tangible, ongoing government projects transforming lives across Meru.
The message is clear: under the current administration, farmers are finally earning what they deserve, with improved tea, coffee, and milk prices. Thank you Senator for inviting me,” said Ambassador Mucheke.
