Police in Meru County have stepped up their fight against illicit brews and drug abuse in a major crackdown aimed at protecting public health.

During a raid in Laare, Igembe North Sub County, officers stormed a homestead suspected of producing the illicit brew, Chang’aa.

The main suspect managed to escape just before the officers entered the compound.

Police say the search for the suspect is ongoing and warned that those involved in brewing and selling illicit brews will face the full force of the law.

The National Police Service has urged members of the public to report any suspicious activities and help protect their communities, especially the youth, from the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse.
