The world’s biggest football tournament on Thursday kicked of on Thursday.
The tournament has 48 teams divided in 12 team from group A to group L.
This year’s tournament is hosted by three countries,the trio hosts are Canada,USA and Mexico.It is the first time the tournament is being hosted by three countries.
The tournament has already brought more controversy despite starting only a few hours.
First there was the refusal by USA authorities to allow Somalia Referee Omar Artan to enter the country and he had to be deported.
Secondly the Iran national team had several of their officials in the delegation denied entry in the USA.The team and players that were allowed entry were given Visa that will allow them to travel from Tijuana Mexico only on their match days in USA.
USA and Iran are currently engaging in war in the Strait of Hormuz.
Thirdly in the first game between host Mexico and South Africa the referee handed three red cards in a single game the highest number of red cards issued in one world cup game.
In the previous world cup only four red cards were given in 2022 Fifa world cup in Qatar.
The world cup will be played late nights Kenyan time making many Kenyans unable to follow the match.However the national broadcaster KBC will show the matches with the earliest being played in 10pm Kenyan time.
