The Media Council of Kenya Mount Kenya East Regional Coordinator Jacob Nyongesa has acknowledged the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in training and capacity building.
Speaking during a presser after meeting the Meru Press Club leadership in Meru town, Nyongesa said the council is fully prepared to handle any emerging trends.
He noted that last year they officially launched a manual meant to train journalists after realising AI is a good tool for the exercise.
“We are prepared enough. Last year we launched a manual on training for journalists. It has different facets but it is a good tool for media to be trained or for capacity building. It is good since it enhances work,” said Nyongesa.

He said AI will be used in preparedness of the coming election slated for next year.
Nyongesa also acknowledged the emerging trend in AI use noting it growing importance on a daily basis.
He however warned that it continued use pose challenges since at times it can be destructive, misleading, create a narrative or worse amplifier propaganda in order to achieve certain interests.
“We acknowledge the emerging trend of using AI on a daily. Although it is good, it faces some challenges. This is because AI can be destructive, misleading, create a narrative or enhance it. It can create a narrative or even advance it,” said Nyongesha.

He urged the media to always exercise caution when handling it.
The coordinator challenged the media fraternity to find out how AI can be used to enhance their work.
“Already guidelines have been produced to set the pace. The media will use the guidelines to enable them report using AI,” said Nyongesa.
