North Imenti MP Rahim Dawood has urged detectives and prosecutors to build a watertight case against those linked to the murder of 65-year-old Evelyne Mukiri Mbaabu after police arrested two additional suspects, bringing the number of people apprehended over the killing to three.
Dawood thanked the Meru County Criminal Investigations Officer (CCIO) and his team for pursuing the case, but warned that the prosecution must ensure those responsible do not escape justice.
“I sincerely thank the Meru County CCIO and his team for their continued efforts in investigating the murder of Evelyne Mukiri Mbaabu,” he said.
Mukiri worked in the office of MP Rahim Dawood until her hacking.
“Considering that the first accused was previously acquitted in 2018 in a murder case dating back to 2013, I urge the investigating agencies and prosecution to build a watertight case that will ensure those responsible do not escape justice. Evelyne Mukiri Mbaabu and her family deserve justice.”

The two latest suspects are Godwin Kimathi, the deceased’s brother, and Beth Muthomi, who is the sister of the first accused, Solomon Kathurima Kairemia, and sister-in-law to the deceased.
According to police, Kimathi was arrested on September 30 at Bonyeine village, while Muthomi was arrested on October 19. Detectives say forensic analysis, witness statements and call data records linked the two to the killing.
Investigators allege that the two conspired to murder Mbaabu over a longstanding land dispute and enlisted Kairemia to carry out the attack.
Police further claim that the suspects maintained communication before and after the killing, pointing to alleged planning and coordination.
The two were arraigned at the Meru Law Courts on October 29, where the court ordered that they be remanded at Meru GK Prison pending mental assessment and plea-taking.
Their arrest follows that of Kairemia, who was apprehended on September 21 after weeks of forensic and intelligence-led investigations by detectives from the CCIO’s office and DCI Imenti North.

At the time, detectives said Kairemia had abandoned his house and was spending nights hiding in nearby thickets. They also recovered a blood-stained panga believed to have been used in the attack. He was subsequently charged with murder.
Mbaabu was killed at her home in Kithoka village, Imenti East, on August 7, 2026, while preparing supper with her 13-year-old grandson.
On the day of the heinous act it was reported that an unknown man entered the compound and asked for drinking water from the victim who lived with her grandson.
Moments later, the boy heard his grandmother screaming and rushed to the kitchen, where he found her lying in a pool of blood.
The attacker also struck the boy on the hand with a panga before fleeing.
Mbaabu was rushed to Grace Park Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
