Learners in Tigania West are set to benefit from enhanced digital skills training and improved learning facilities courtesy of a Sh 200 million partnership initiative championed by area MP John Mutunga and supported by the Mpesa Foundation.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Limbine Primary School infrastructure upgrade, MP Mutunga announced several major investments in the region’s education sector.
“This cannot be taken for granted. It is a great boost even to the little we put under NG-CDF. We thank the CS for coming. We have a development accademization program in the constituency where we are transforming infrastructure of our institutions across the 137 schools. We are developing them progressively through identification and prioritization,” Mutunga said.
The function was graced by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba and Safaricom Foundation Chairman Joseph Ogutu.
The developments mark a significant milestone in bridging the digital divide and preparing students in rural areas for the modern economy.
Among the key developments is a Sh 150 million grant to Meru University of Science and Technology for the construction of a Business Development and Commercialisation Centre.
Additionally, Limbine Primary School will receive seven new classrooms, a modern science and ICT lab, a new administration block, and a staffroom, projects valued at over Sh 30 million.
Renovations and new classroom construction have also been completed at Lubunu Primary School.
CS Ogamba praised the initiative, highlighting its alignment with the national government’s agenda of improving education infrastructure and digital literacy.
“These facilities will equip learners with skills vital for national development. We urge other stakeholders to partner with us to uplift education standards across the country,” he said.
Mpesa Foundation chairman Joseph Ogutu reiterated the organization’s commitment to enhancing digital education.
He revealed the Foundation is building and renovating classrooms in 600 schools nationwide, with 50 already completed and 50 more underway.
“We aim to have these projects completed and handed over by November,” he added.
