Today should have been a proud day for Timau we woke up ready to celebrate.
The Safaricom Mpesa Foundation had come to our constituency hospital to build what we have prayed for for years, a much-needed maternity ward.
A safe place for our mothers to give birth. A place where no mother has to choose between distance and danger.
Instead, our leaders chose to disgrace us.
In front of our guests, in front of donors who came with goodwill, supporters of our politicians turned a development launch into a physical fight.

Shouting, shoving, supremacy battles – while the foundation officials watched in shock.
This is heartbreaking and completely unacceptable, spare us the little squabbles.
Timau is a peaceful home. We are a happy, peaceful community of farmers, traders, and hardworking families.
We do not need political wars. When development comes to Timau, we celebrate the project, not who brought it.
We don’t care about political credit. We care that our mothers have a place to give birth safely. We care that our hospital is well-equipped. We care that our roads are done.
To our leaders: If you cannot unite for the sake of our mothers, then step aside. Maternal health is not a campaign tool. It is life and death. You should not let politics delay development projects. You should not let your ego chase away partners who want to help us.

To the Safaricom Mpesa Foundation: On behalf of the peaceful people of Timau, we are sorry. We are deeply sorry that you had to witness this. Please do not punish our mothers for the mistakes of our politicians. Timau still needs you. Our mothers still need that ward.
