Meru MCAs have endorsed Interior and national coordination CS Kithure Kindiki to take over from the embattled Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
DP Gachagua is set to know his fate today evening as Senate concludes the impeachment trial before taking a vote.
The MCAs led by majority leader Patrick Mutuma, nominated MCA Mwenda Kiriinya, Deputy Speaker Mwenda Ali and Agnes Karimi appealed to President William Ruto to consider Kindiki due to his track record as cabinet secretary.
Kiriinya said the country is thirsty of a leader who can unite Kenyans and push for implementation of the Kenya Kwanza administration’s manifesto.
“We need serious performers in the caliber of Prof. Kindiki. All pollsters have ranked CS Kindiki on top of all ministers and possible contenders for deputy president pick. Kenyans across the country want him.”
“We also join other Kenyans since we have a lot of confidence in him and are grateful for all Kenyans rallying support for Kindiki,” Kiriinya said.
He said all MPs and the majority of senators are rallying behind Kindiki to be the next deputy President.
“People have seen leadership qualities and he is able to be a symbol of unity. We ask the President to pick CS Kindiki to help him deliver on his mandate,” Kiriinya said.
Mutuma said as Meru MCAs they are united with one common goal to urge the President to pick Kindiki.
“In 2022 during the initial formation of the Kenya Kwanza government, Kindiki was ranked top for running mate but due to reasons not known, Gachagua took over. Kindiki is capable and everyone wants him.”
“He is also a son of the Mountain and he can play a great role in being the Kingpin of the region for a peaceful country and enhancement of developments,” Mutuma said.
The CS has been receiving endorsements from all sectors including 48 Mt Kenya region MPs, women groups, a section of Mt Kenya region MCAs among others.
Agnes Karimi, the Mbus Party nominee said the CS is not tribal, not corrupt, and is a great performer.
“Kindiki is a national leader. The Presidency is an entity entitled to be a symbol of national unity. He is the best placed to unite this country” she said.
