Isaac Marete Kinoti, one of Meru Governor Mutuma M’Ethingia’s CECM nominee has declined his position on grounds of of his desire to have an inclusive regionally balanced executive.

Kinoti, popularly known as JR, was among 10 CECs nominated by Governor Mutuma before Buuri MP Mugambi Rindikiri protested that his constituency had been left out.

JR, a political commentator, has in the last vied for Meru Senator seat.

In a communication to the assembly, Meru deputy speaker Mwenda Ali told the house that Kinoti had agreed to step down as CECM Lands, urban development and public works after increased pressure from Buuri MP and residents.

The nominee stepped down through a letter addressed to the governor.

“After lengthy engagement and discussions with Governor M’Ethingia and consultation with my family and other stakeholders, I have agreed to step down and my position be given to someone else from Buuri constituency following concerns by residents that I am not from Buuri constituency,” the letter reads.

Marete said that he was honoured to be a nominee but due to his integrity, he was very willing to serve the people of Meru in any other capacity.

“I am willing to serve in any other capacity the governor feels fit for me to help Meru people. This is to enhance cohesion and regional balance which the governor is keenly trying to achieve for unity and every person feels well represented, since the nomination was all about serve,”

Marete had said through the letter to the governor which was read in the assembly chambers.The Governor nominated Joyce Karwitha to replace Marete.

MCAs hailed praises to Marete saying he is a good leader and appealed to the governor to reconsider appointing Marete in another post.

“I am happy the governor has nominated a lady. Those who were saying Meru people are against women should be ashamed.We are ready to approve. He has nominated very competent leaders and we thank him,” Ali, the Njia Ward MCA said.

Mikinduri Ward MCA Julius Kaimbo said Marete has shown true leadership adding that to relinquish a powerful and resourful position is not easy.

“I am grateful that Kinoti has great love for Meru people. He is one of a kind. He is a true leader,” Kaimbo said.

Others to face the Speaker Ayub Bundi appointment committee includes; Monica Kathono for the Finance Docket, Jenaro Gatangugi who was the first Governor Peter Munya’s CECM nominated in the Agriculture docket while Lawyer Marius Maranya to Legal Affairs, Public Service management and Administration.

Dr David Bariu is the nominee for Roads and Transport CECM, Dr Dennis Mugambi has been nominated as CECM in the Health Services.

Former Municipality MCA Elias Murega Julius, for the Sports docket, Rev. Dr Carol Kaberia is a nominee for Trade, Tourism and Cooperatives, Advocate Baptista Kanyaru Muriki will be in charge of water environment and natural resources and Dr Esther Rukunga has been nominated to spearhead Education, Science and Arts docket.
