Former Interior Security Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i has come out strongly against threats of violence in Meru, daring those who had vowed to disrupt his rallies to go ahead and try.
Matiang’i was speaking at Timau Market during the launch of his tour of Meru County ahead of the 2027 presidential campaigns.
He was accompanied by Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka, Party of National Unity leader Peter Munya, former Education CS Ezekiel Machogu, and several other leaders.
Matiang’i dismissed claims that his rallies could be disrupted by goons, insisting he and his team would not bow to pressure.
He warned unnamed groups allegedly planning to mobilize goons that they were ready for them and would not be intimidated.
“Those people who were saying that they will organize goons here in Meru so that we don’t come for the meeting, I am telling you that we have come to Meru. Organize goons and we will meet you there,” said Matiang’i.
The former CS told the crowd that he would not allow any threats to derail his mission in the county.
He urged residents to reject attempts by a few individuals to create fear, adding that Meru people deserve to be part of a national conversation on leadership.
He insisted that Meru must remain open for political dialogue, promising to traverse the entire county and engage with the public directly.
In addition, Matiang’I noted that those spreading fear were working against democracy.
He maintained that every Kenyan has the right to campaign freely across the country.
“We cannot be threatened that we can’t go to some places because they say they will organize goons. No, we won’t accept that. Will you accept people to come and disturb us here? We will come and stay here with you because you are our brothers so that we can discuss the leadership issues of this country,” said Matiang’i.
Matiang’i further encouraged the people of Meru not to shy away if goons attempted to disrupt their meetings.
Instead, he told them to stand firm and protect their right to democracy.
He also emphasized that his campaign would not be confined to Meru alone, but would spread across the entire country.
Matiang’i said that he would take his message of unity and change to every corner of Kenya, noting that leadership transformation requires collaboration between citizens and their leaders.
Nonetheless, Matiang’i explained that his vision for 2027 is anchored on unity, fairness, and development.
He asked the residents to work together with him in pushing for a government that prioritizes their needs.
“I am pleading with you at this time, let’s unite and work together so that we can ensure that we have leadership that is going to help us,” said Matiang’i.
