Youth from Makutano, Meru County, have come out strongly in support of Akithi ward MCA Mwenda Ithili urging him to contest the senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during a meeting held today at Makutano, youth leader Benjamin Kimathi praised Ithili’s leadership, describing him as a bold and visionary figure who has consistently stood against poor governance.
“We are supporting Mwenda Ithili because he is one of the most promising young leaders in Meru. He has shown great courage and has always stood against bad leadership. We believe he can bring real change at the county level,” said Kimathi.
Another youth, Kobia Thingau from Tigania, emphasized the importance of young people securing leadership positions at county and national levels.
“This is our time as youth to rise and take up leadership roles. Ithili is a perfect example. He has demonstrated exemplary leadership in Akithi Ward, and we are proud to stand behind him,” said Thingau.
Dennis Kithinji, a leader from the Mount Kenya East Youth Council expressed frustration at the long-standing narrative that “youth are the leaders of tomorrow.”
“For too long, youth have been sidelined with the empty promise that we are the leaders of tomorrow. We reject that notion. The time is now. We must rise and take our rightful place in leadership,” said Kithinji.
The youth also applauded Ithili’s track record in service delivery and community engagement, especially his efforts to uplift young people through inclusive development programs.
With this growing wave of support, Ithili’s anticipated senatorial bid continues to gain momentum.
The Makutano youth have pledged to mobilize across the region to ensure he secures the Senate seat in 2027, signaling a generational shift in Meru County politics.
