Detectives in Meru have arrested a man suspected of impersonating as police officer and using the disguise to harass and intimidate members of the public in Imenti North Sub-County.
The suspect, identified as Lucky Mwenda, is said to be a repeat offender who has been masquerading as a police officer while carrying out his activities in the area.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) post,the arrest followed tip-offs from members of the public who raised alarm over Mwenda’s conduct.
“The arrest was made possible thanks to members of the public who provided crucial intelligence. Acting swiftly, officers apprehended the suspect while he was in possession of a numberless getaway motorcycle,” the DCI said in a statement posted on its social media platforms.

According to the report, a subsequent search led to the recovery of several items believed to have been used to reinforce the suspect’s fake identity.
These included a military jacket, a military knee pad, a military hat, a camel bag and a dagger.
The suspect, a youthful man,was taken into custody as detectives launched further investigations to establish whether he was linked to other criminal activities in the region.
Police said the suspect is undergoing processing ahead of his arraignment in court.
Authorities have urged members of the public to continue sharing information that could help curb crime in the county.
