The county government of Tharaka Nithi has now raised a red flag over the number of children being abandoned by their parents with some being found already dead.

Worries are now emerging of the possibility of a syndicate that is either within the county or from elsewhere that is dumping children in the county and fleeing.

This emerges after six children, all boys, were found in the last two months with some found dead.

The county’s chief officer in charge of Children and Gender Kelly Rwigi Karimi, who visited the scene in the company of officers from the county and the police force, wants immediate investigations pointing to the possibility of the syndicate being involved in infanticide.

According to Ms Karimi, the trend is worrisome and may set a precedent that allows those involved to walk free if no investigations are done to get to the bottom of the matter.

She is now calling on the community to also report to police on suspicious neighbours who have been expecting children and now do not have.

A toll-free number – 1513 – has also been given to the public to report such cases in efforts to curtail the emerging trend.

The police have also been urged to act fast as no report on the other five children has been given to date despite it being two months ago.

The children are being dumped outside the Bonanza children’s home in Chuka.
