Imenti Central Member of Parliament Kirima Nguchine has defended his development record and appealed to residents to grant him a third term in office to enable him complete key projects across the constituency.
Speaking during an empowerment programme for religious leaders at the AIPC Gatimbi Church on Monday 17th 2025, the legislator urged clergy and residents to pray for him as they did in previous elections, noting that their spiritual support had been instrumental in his past victories.
Kirima also used the platform to ask for forgiveness from constituents who feel he may have wronged or disappointed them during his tenure, stressing that any shortcomings were unintentional and should not overshadow the work accomplished so far.
The lawmaker addressed criticism over stalled development projects, particularly roads, saying some accusations levelled against him are based on misunderstandings about the roles of different government offices.
He clarified that certain infrastructure projects fall under the mandate of the Members of County Assembly (MCAs) and not the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF), which he oversees.
“Some people blame me for delays that are not under my jurisdiction. The hostility comes from a misunderstanding of how government works, not because I have failed,” he said.
With a light touch, Mr Kirima sparked laughter when he reassured residents that while he is imperfect like any other human being, he has never committed any wrongdoing that would warrant resentment.
He insisted he has never stolen from, harmed or exploited anyone in Imenti Central.
“Have you ever heard that I’ve stolen somebody’s cow? Honestly, there’s nothing I have taken from you not even a single chicken,”he lamented.
He explained that his absence from certain functions was sometimes unavoidable due to competing responsibilities.
He pleaded with residents not to hold grudges over such instances, saying unity and reconciliation are key to propelling Imenti Central forward.
“Forgive me so that you accept to campaign for me and elect me you have been told to forgive each other because you also need to be forgiven that is what the scripture teaches.” he said.
The legislator further anchored his appeal for support on Biblical teachings, urging residents to embrace forgiveness as a pathway to cooperation.
He encouraged them to reflect on his leadership with fairness, considering both achievements and the challenges of administering constituency affairs.
The MP highlighted his unique political milestone, reminding residents that he is the only Imenti Central legislator to have been elected twice.
He said this track record demonstrates trust from voters and a commitment to steering long-term development.
“I need your prayers to become a Member of Parliament in 2027, just like you prayed for me in 2017 and 2022,” he told the congregation.
He noted he is seeking a third term to complete ongoing plans aimed at improving education, infrastructure and social welfare across the constituency.
He appealed to residents to stand with him again, saying his work demonstrates consistency and dedication.
He acknowledged that leadership is not without challenges and asked residents to focus on the progress made rather than the setbacks.
However he argued that genuine development requires continuity, patience and mutual understanding between leaders and citizens.
