Meru residents and leaders have welcomed the appointment of Meru County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Water, Baptista Muriki Kanyaru, as a Director of the Family Bank of Kenya.
The bank said the appointment is expected to strengthen its board capacity in governance, strategy and regulatory compliance as it continues to expand its footprint in the Kenyan banking sector.

They termed the appointment as a vote of confidence in Governor Mutuma M’Ethingia’s administration and its leadership choices.
Family Bank, in a statement announced that Mr. Kanyaru had joined its board, citing his more than a decade of experience in legal practice, corporate governance and strategic leadership.
Reacting to the appointment, Meru residents praised the county leadership, saying the recognition of a serving cabinet member (Kanyaru)by a national financial institution reflected the quality and competence of the county’s executive team.
Ahmed Latif said Governor Mutuma’s cabinet is composed of highly skilled technocrats with vast experience, well positioned to drive Meru County’s development agenda.
“The recognition of one of his cabinet members by Family Bank through appointment as a Director speaks volumes about the quality of leadership in this administration. Meru County is back on the right path and on a positive development trajectory,” Latif said, congratulating Mr. Kanyaru on the new role.
Other residents echoed the sentiments, noting that Mr. Kanyaru’s growing national profile brings pride to the county.
Ken Mananga congratulated him, describing the multiple leadership roles he holds as a sign of divine favour and trust.
Kanyaru currently serves as the CECM for Water in Meru County, a director at KTDA Holdings, and sits on the boards of Kiegoi and Igembe Tea Factories.
In its statement, Family Bank said Mr. Kanyaru brings strong legal and governance expertise to the board.
He holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Moi University and a Postgraduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law, and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Strategic Management at Kenya Methodist University.
He is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a member of the Law Society of Kenya.
