The Meru County government is set to revive the Governor’s Cup in a bid to nurture talents, steer youth away from drugs and unproductive activities.
Governor Mutuma M’Ethingia reaffirmed that keeping youth away from drug addiction remains a central focus of his administration.
“To achieve this goal, the county government is reviving the Governor’s Cup and strengthening support for miraa farmers through several initiatives,”said governor Mutuma.
The Governor spoke at Mailitatu stadium in Njia Ward Igembe South, during the Njia Sports Day Extravaganza, which brought together 16 teams competing in various games.
Rewarding the participating teams, governor Mutuma said that he is optimistic that through the players display of teamwork and unity, young talents will be realized.

He also took the opportunity to highlight some key development priorities in his leadership, saying health was key.
“As we support sports, we also believe that health for our people is key. My administration is prioritizing improvements in healthcare and infrastructure, including upgrading Nyambene Hospital and Kangeta Hospital for this region,” said the governor.
The event was attended by the Deputy Governor, Lindah Kiome, and other county officials, including CECMs and Members of the County Assembly.
