Football in Meru County is set to grow after the county government and sponsors promised support for grassroots sports.
Elias Murega, the Meru CECM for Sports, said he wants the county to become a top sports and tourism hub.
“We aim to make Meru a sports centre and model for other counties,” he said.
This comes after Meru hosted the Eastern and North Eastern Tujiamini tournament, where a local team, Black Panther won a three year sponsorship worth KSh 750,000 per year from SportPesa.

SportPesa’s communication officer, Willis Ojwang, confirmed the deal, saying they want to grow local talent.
Black Panther manager, Shaban Ousman, said sports have helped many youth stay off the streets and focus on positive activities.
With more support, Meru hopes to host more games and attract visitors through sports.
