Thangatha Ward MCA Elijah Kimathi has publicly declared his support for Governor Rev. Mutuma M’Ethingia’s re-election, urging residents to back the county boss for a second term due to his developments track record.

Kimathi made the remarks on Friday while accompanying Governor Mutuma during the commissioning of a newly constructed ECDE classroom at Ngongoaka Primary School and the inspection of several county development projects across Thangatha Ward.

“I unequivocally support and will rally the people of Thangatha to re-elect Governor Isaac Mutuma M’Ethingia,” Kimathi said, describing the governor’s visit as evidence of a partnership focused on delivering development to grassroots communities.

The MCA said development projects on education, healthcare, water access, infrastructure that have been implemented in the ward over the past year demonstrate the governor’s commitment to transforming livelihoods in Meru.

“These projects are a reflection of a responsive leadership that listens to the needs of the people and acts with purpose. Development is not just a promise; it is a commitment we are fulfilling,” Kimathi said.

His call was echoed by Meru County Executive Committee Member for Finance Monica Kathono, who hails from Thangatha Ward, and who urged residents to grant Governor Mutuma a second term.

Kathono said the governor had initiated and completed several development projects within one year in office, arguing that another five-year term would accelerate the county’s transformation.

“Considering what has been achieved within one year, Meru will transform greatly if Governor Mutuma is given a second term,” she said.

Kimathi and Kathono were staunch supporters of impeached Governor Kawira Mwangaza.

Governor Mutuma used the development tour to commission and inspect several projects, including the Flocca Water Tank at Ankamia, ground levelling works at Kathanene Primary School, the opening of Kaajabe Road, the Githu Road and the new ECDE classroom.

The governor defended his administration’s empowerment programmes, saying leaders should not fear economically empowered citizens.

“Many leaders are afraid to see electorates who are empowered and have money in their pockets,” he said.

Mutuma also criticized former Cabinet Secretaries who previously headed the Agriculture ministry, accusing them of failing to secure international markets for miraa despite the crop’s importance to Meru’s economy.
He said his administration would continue pushing for expanded markets to improve farmers’ incomes.

At Kunati Dispensary, the governor distributed tents and chairs to women’s and youth groups, saying the equipment would strengthen community activities and improve livelihoods.

He said every visit to villages offered an opportunity to listen to residents and align county projects with their priorities.

“The best decisions are made when leaders and citizens walk the journey together. I remain committed to ensuring every voice is heard as we build a better Meru,” he said.

Speaking after commissioning the Flocca Water Tank, the governor said the project would improve access to clean and safe water for families in the area, while the opening roads would enhance connectivity and stimulate economic activity.

On education, Mutuma said investments in ECDE infrastructure would provide young learners with conducive learning environments.
