Kenya National Women soccer team junior starlets have qualified for the under 17 world cup for the first time in history.

The junior starlets beat South Africa 3-1 in a full capacity attendance in Nyayo national stadium.

South Africa were the first to score through Katlebo Malehana in the fifth minute after she capitalized on defensive lapses to beat the goalkeeper on one on one position.

The two teams went into the first half with South Africa leading 1-0.

The junior starlets equalised in the 70th minute through a header from Gaudancia Makokha who was able to connect well with a cross.

The junior starlets substitute Elizabeth Opiyo then made runs inside the box and her pace proved difficult to contain since her introduction and she won Kenya a penalty in the 86th minute.

Brenda Awuor comfortably scored from the penalty.

The Junior starlet’s then made a quick counter attack and Opiyo then selflessly made a pass to Brenda Achieng who scored.

The Junior Starlets were able to Qualify on 5-1 aggregate after their earlier 2-0 away win in Pretoria.

The Junior Starlets who had won only one match in their debut world cup two years ago will aim at improving.
