Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has challenged the opposition to account for its development record, declaring that the Kenya Kwanza administration is ready to face voters with what he termed an impressive performance in its first four years in office.

Kindiki said the government had exceeded expectations in key sectors, including infrastructure, agriculture, education, electricity connectivity and affordable housing expressing confidence that its development record would earn it another term.

Speaking on Wednesday 14 October 2026, during an inspection of development projects in Kabete, Kiambu and Ruiru constituencies in Kiambu County, the Deputy President maintained that the administration was on course to fulfil the promises it made in its manifesto ahead of the 2027 general election.

“When it comes to service delivery, fighting poverty, building roads and markets, improving agriculture and advancing education, this government has exceeded all expectations. We are on course to fully implement the Kenya Kwanza manifesto, and we are ready to be held accountable for the promises we made to the people of Kenya,” he said.

The second in command said the administration was different from previous governments, which he accused of abandoning their manifestos after assuming office.

“This is the first government that is following its manifesto page by page, paragraph by paragraph, sentence by sentence and word by word,” he said.

The Deputy President cited more than 6,000 kilometres of roads under construction across the country, 600 modern markets at various stages of development and reforms in agriculture that he said had improved farmers’ earnings.

He also pointed to the recruitment of 100,000 teachers, with another 20,000 expected to be recruited before the end of the year, alongside expanded electricity connections and the affordable housing programme.

According to Kindiki, the housing initiative has created employment opportunities for more than 1.1 million Kenyans working at construction sites across the country.

“These are promises we made which we are implementing in building markets and roads, expanding electricity connectivity and supporting farmers. That is the work we promised to do and that is the work we continue to undertake,” he said.

The Deputy President’s tour of Kiambu included the launch of the construction of Muthure-Njathaini Road in Kabete, one of several road projects in the constituency valued at Sh330 million.

Other projects include Kanyariri-Muthure, Ngure ACK-Gitaru-Kanyariri-Ndumbuini, Green Belt-Mbari ya Njau, Motego-Gitaru and St Anne Catholic-Kaburini roads.
In Kiambu Constituency, Kindiki launched the construction of Kirigiti Primary and Junior School and inspected ongoing works at Kangangi Modern Market in Kiambu town.

He later inspected Rainbow-Gikumaru Road and launched the construction of Gikumaru-Ruiru Technical Training Institute Road in Ruiru Constituency.

Kindiki said the projects were part of the government’s broader effort to improve access to infrastructure, education and economic opportunities.

The DP noted Kiambu County has a development portfolio that includes 1,656 kilometres of roads valued at Sh152 billion, 31 modern markets, affordable housing projects, student hostels and 14 milk coolers, according to the Deputy President.

During engagements with residents of Karura Ka Nyungu, Kiambu town and Ruiru town, he said the government was committed to accelerating the implementation of projects to improve livelihoods.

He challenged opposition leaders to present their own development records and offer alternative policies instead of relying on political insults and confrontations.

“Anyone seeking votes must explain the work they have done for the people. Our opponents have served in office and they must tell Kenyans what they did for them. We cannot compete on the basis of violence, insults, ridicule or contempt,” he said.

Kindiki also vowed to intensify the fight against illicit alcohol and drug abuse, saying the government would target manufacturers, suppliers, enablers and cartels blamed for fuelling the menace.

“We will dismantle the manufacturers, enablers, suppliers and all the cartels ruining the health of our people. I assure you that I will not let you down,” he said.

Those accompanied him included ICT Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo, Kiambu MP Waithaka Machua, Ruiru MP Simon King’ara, Thika Town MP Alice Ng’ang’a, Kiambaa MP Njuguna Kawanjiku, Kiambu Woman Representative Anne Wamuratha and former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria.
