Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has defended the Kenya Kwanza administration’s development record, saying the government is steadily implementing its manifesto and ensuring every part of the country benefits from national projects.
Prof Kindiki said the administration had remained focused on delivering the promises it made to Kenyans despite political distractions, insisting that development programmes were being rolled out across all counties.
“We are implementing the UDA manifesto step by step, word by word, page by page, chapter by chapter. I have no doubt that we will implement it in full,” he said.
The Deputy President spoke today 23 September 2026,while inspecting development projects in Maragua Constituency, Murang’a County, where he highlighted major investments in sports infrastructure and roads.
Among the projects he inspected was the Sh900 million Gakoigo Stadium, which is expected to provide a modern sporting facility for residents and young athletes in the region.
According to Kindiki the stadium is part of a network of 32 sports facilities being developed in different parts of the country.
“The modern facility is expected to include a football pitch, a tartan running track, changing rooms, washrooms, covered terraces and parking facilities,”said Kindiki.
Kindiki said the project was evidence that the government was honouring commitments made to residents before the 2022 General Election.
“We promised construction of the stadium when we held the Murang’a County Economic Forum at the site before the last elections. It is now ongoing. We promised and we are delivering it,” added Kindiki.
He also inspected the ongoing tarmacking of the 16-kilometre Kigoro-Matanya-Mung’etho-Muchagara-Kiambaa Road, whose construction is estimated to cost Sh1.1 billion.
“This road must be completed in under one year. I will consult with the concerned Ministry to ensure this road is completed in record time,” he said.
The Deputy President later addressed residents at Kigoro Centre, where he outlined other projects being implemented in Murang’a they include the Sh900 million Mumbi Stadium in Kiharu Constituency, modern markets, affordable housing projects, expansion of electricity connectivity and the upgrading of roads across the county.
Kindiki said the government’s development programme was not limited to a particular region, arguing that projects were being implemented across the country.
“We are working hard to ensure every part of Kenya gets developed. When it comes to any contest on development, we will win no doubt,” he said.
The Deputy President also cited interventions in agriculture, including subsidised fertiliser, cheaper certified seeds, reduced costs of sexed semen and measures aimed at improving returns for farmers in the dairy, coffee and tea sectors.
He at the same time said fertiliser prices had been reduced from Sh7,500 to Sh2,000, while seed prices had also been cut to cushion farmers from high production costs.
Kindiki’s remarks come as the government intensifies its focus on demonstrating progress on its development agenda, particularly infrastructure, agriculture and sports. Recent reports indicate that Murang’a is among counties receiving substantial national government investments in roads, markets, housing and sports facilities.
The DP also used the occasion to call for unity in the Mt Kenya region, warning residents against political divisions and violence.
He said residents had a constitutional right to support politicians of their choice but cautioned against allowing political differences to trigger destruction of property or clashes.
“It is okay to choose whoever you want to support because it is your right. But we will not allow violence to rein in the region. We cannot allow some to destroy people’s properties because of politics,” he said.
The call for unity was echoed by leaders accompanying him, who praised his efforts to promote cohesion within the region.
Also speaking Maragua MP Mary Wamaua said Kindiki was supporting President William Ruto in implementing development programmes in the region and across the country.
Kangema MP Peter Kihungi also urged residents to reject attempts to divide the Mt Kenya region, saying communities in the area should work together.
“We must stay together as all communities from Mt Kenya. We are grateful you have taken a stand that we must stay united and no one should divide us,” Mr Kihungi said.
Nominated MP Sabina Chege said leaders from the region would support the government’s development agenda.
Responding to the leaders, Kindiki maintained that he would continue championing unity.
“We must stay together. We cannot be separated. We are one people, one community. Mt Kenya is one,” he said.
He urged residents to give priority to development and peaceful coexistence, saying political competition should not undermine projects intended to improve people’s livelihoods.
