Meru Governor Isaac Mutuma has announced plans to introduce free milk for all Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) children in the county in a bid to boost nutrition and school attendance among the young learners.

Speaking during the Meru Dairy Cooperative Union 10th farmer’s field day at Gitoro ASK showground, Governor Mutuma said while the initiative is a top priority for his administration, the county’s financial resources are insufficient to implement it fully.

He appealed to President Ruto to provide financial support to ensure the program’s success.

In addition, the Governor urged President Ruto to intervene in the long stalled sewer project that was meant to shift waste management infrastructure from Gakoromone to Rwanyange.

The project, launched in 2019 and initially scheduled for completion by 2022, has stalled due to delays by the contractor and funding constraints.

Governor Mutuma also highlighted the urgent need for support in expanding the Last Mile Connectivity program, which aims to provide electricity to underserved areas.

He emphasized that lack of electricity remains a major barrier to rural development and economic growth in Meru.

Furthermore, the Governor made a passionate appeal for financing the Mutuaru Water Project, which he said requires KSh 2.4 billion to complete.

The project, once implemented, is expected to significantly improve water access for thousands of residents in the region.
