Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo has come under sharp criticism from Ameru community living in Isiolo over what they termed as poor leadership.
Meru community spokesperson Mwenda Thuranira accused Guyo’s administration of poor governance, underdevelopment, and neglect of youth affairs in the county.
Thuranira said Isiolo has not experienced tangible progress despite having access to adequate resources, adding that insecurity and rising drug abuse among the youth were a result of mismanagement.
He noted that he does not regret supporting the governor’s impeachment earlier this year.
Governor Guyo survived an impeachment attempt in the Senate in July 2025 and has since made significant changes to his administration.
Speaking during a local radio interview, Thuranira said disunity among the Ameru community in Isiolo County continues to deny them key leadership opportunities and development benefits.
He urged community leaders and aspirants to unite for stronger political representation at both county and national levels.
“We are the second-largest community in Isiolo. It is time we unite and speak in one voice, failure to which we are doomed. I will never let my community down. United we achieve more,” said Thuranira, who narrowly lost the Isiolo North parliamentary seat in 2022.
He pledged to lobby for resources to complete major infrastructure projects, including the Isiolo Stadium, Isiolo Airport, and the main market, while also advocating for the issuance of title deeds in Isiolo Town, Bula Pesa, and Mwangaza.
“Once the stadium, market, and airport are completed, they will create more jobs for our youth and women. Our people can’t access loans or develop their land without title deeds,” he said.
Beyond politics, Thuranira, who is the CEO of My Space Properties, has been recognized for his philanthropic efforts in Isiolo and Meru counties, including food relief, educational bursaries, and women’s empowerment initiatives.
Residents have lauded his commitment to supporting widows and single mothers facing economic hardships.
“Our commitment goes beyond politics. We must lift our people, especially women and the vulnerable, to ensure no family is left behind as we push for development,” he said.
