Buuri Sub-County has written history in Merufootball after its teams swept the podium in the FKF Meru County League playoffs final, taking positions one, two and three.
Teams from the nine sub-counties, Igembe North, Igembe South, Igembe Central, Tigania East, Tigania West, Buuri, North Imenti, South Imenti and Central Imenti, battled through the quarter-finals and semi-finals at Kaaga Girls Grounds, but it was Buuri that dominated the finals day.

Ruiri Forest Rangers are the new champions of Meru County after a hard-fought 1-0 win over Lolomarik in the final, a tight and tense match that was decided by a single goal.
In the third-place playoff, Mwanga Millers, also from Buuri, beat Maua United from Igembe South 3-1. The Millers finished third with a solid win in the Meru County League playoffs.
What an achievement for the debutants, playing in the FKF Meru County League for the first season and finishing third, ahead of older teams like Maua United.
The Buuri dominance is no accident but a clear example of what sponsorship can do for grassroots football.
Buuri is home to companies that have invested heavily in sports, and they have reaped big rewards.

While other teams struggle with transport, kits and allowances, sponsored teams in Buuri have structure, training and motivation.
Mwanga Millers, as debutants finishing third and beating established teams like Maua United, is proof that talent is everywhere in Meru, it just needs support.
The success of Buuri should push the County Government of Meru to act. Companies investing in youth football could be rewarded with incentives, such as tax rebates, to encourage more firms to come in.
Football is not just about winning, it is happiness and opportunities for the youth. The charged crowds at Kaaga Girls Grounds proved that again.
