Safaricom has introduced new Tap to Pay and Scan to Pay services aimed at making digital payments more convenient while enhancing security for customers and businesses.
The new payment options were highlighted during a Safaricom engagement with journalists, content creators and website publishers at Mavvel Hotel in Embu town on Thursday, where the telecommunications company also outlined its latest products and opportunities for digital creators.
The Scan to Pay option allows customers to initiate M-Pesa payments by scanning a QR code.
Safaricom said the expansion of digital payment options is part of its efforts to enhance convenience and security as more Kenyans increasingly use mobile platforms to pay for goods and services.
During the Embu engagement, Safaricom representatives, including Julian Kamau, Githinji Mwai and Peter Njihia, also trained content creators on how they can work with the company to generate value through digital platforms.
Kamau urged content creators and social media influencers to maintain a presence across multiple platforms, remain professional and transparent, and produce content that connects with their audiences.
“As a content creator or social media influencer, one must have a unique item, be on point in storytelling, be natural, understand the product for the campaign 100 per cent and never change from who you are,” she said.
The representatives also highlighted other Safaricom services targeting consumers and small businesses, including Pochi La Biashara.
Pochi La Biashara provides micro-business owners with a dedicated M-Pesa wallet for their businesses, enabling them to separate business funds from personal transactions.
Safaricom has continued to broaden its services beyond traditional voice and data offerings into payments, digital financial services and other technology-based products.
Its One App Lite platform, for example, allows customers to manage their accounts, check balances and purchase bundles and other services through a single digital platform.
The Embu engagement also focused on helping content creators understand Safaricom products and communicate them effectively to consumers while maintaining authenticity and professional standards.
The engagement is part of Safaricom’s stakeholder involvement ahead of the Eastern Region Chapa Dimba football tournament set for this weekend.
