The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has embarked on a historic initiative to introduce white rhinos to Loisaba Conservancy, making it the 12th sanctuary in the country to host these majestic creatures.

The move is part of implementing the KWS Strategic Plan (2024–2028) and the White Rhino Conservation and Management Action Plan in Kenya.

In a Strategic Effort, 10 white rhinos will be translocated to Loisaba Conservancy in a move to expand habitats and secure the future of the species.

The Voice daily has learnt that the first group of four rhinos, comprising two males and two females, have already been successfully translocated from the Meru National Park.

Termed as a delicate but significant process, this Conservation goal, underscores KWS’s mission to safeguard Kenya’s wildlife heritage and its habitat for the well-being of nature and people.

This will be achieved through creating more space and diversifying their range.

The relocation is expected to foster healthier breeding conditions and reduce risks associated with confined populations.

This translocation exercise is a milestone for conservation and a promise of a thriving future for one of Africa’s most iconic species.

Remarkably the KWS team, led by Dr. Lekolool, and Loisaba Conservancy are working together to ensure the success of this initiative, which will contribute to the long-term conservation of white rhinos in Kenya

Kenya through set applaudable conservation success, has been a beacon of hope for rhino conservation, with the white rhino population showing remarkable recovery.

As of the year 2024 census, the country proudly hosts 1,041 white rhinos, a figure that continues to grow thanks to strategic conservation measures.
