A Meru-based preacher has sparked sharp reactions after accusing the Meru’s Members of Parliament of failing to effectively represent residents, claiming they address the President using a language he does not understand, making their efforts meaningless.
Speaking during a Sunday service at Jesus Winner Ministry in Meru County, Reverend Nathan Kirimi openly criticized the legislators over what he described as poor communication and lack of boldness, especially on serious issues affecting residents such as banditry and insecurity.
Kirimi criticized the approach taken by the MPs in addressing national matters, questioning their effectiveness and seriousness when it comes to communicating issues affecting Meru residents to the country’s leadership.
“Most of the time, our Members of Parliament make us wonder if they think we haven’t gone to school to understand these matters. How can you come from Nairobi and call a press conference addressing the President, yet you speak in Kimeru, a language he does not understand?” claimed Reverend Nathan Kirimi.
He told congregants that it does not make sense for leaders from Meru to address a President who does not understand Kimeru using the same language, insisting that such actions show either fear or lack of seriousness in leadership.
Further, Kirimi accused the MPs of cowardice, saying they have failed to boldly present the concerns of Meru residents at the national level, despite being entrusted with that responsibility during elections.
“We are telling our Members of Parliament to let go of fear because you are so fearful, and you are supposed to be told the truth; all of you are cowards,” claimed Reverend Nathan Kirimi.
The outspoken preacher claimed that the MPs have turned out to be the opposite of what they promised voters during the last general election.
He argued that their performance has left many residents feeling disappointed and abandoned.
He singled out Imenti South MP Kirima Nguchine, questioning why his professional background as a lawyer has not been reflected in Parliament through strong legislative proposals that can benefit Meru residents.
Kirimi maintained that the situation reflects a deeper leadership crisis in the county, claiming that Meru appears to lack representatives who can speak in a way that compels the President to listen and act on the issues raised.

He said the failure of MPs to speak boldly and directly has left critical issues, such as insecurity and development, unaddressed, creating frustration among the electorate.
“I am telling you, Members of Parliament, clearly that you have let us down, and you do not deserve the title of being called Honourable members,” said Reverend Nathan Kirimi.
He told congregants that it is as if the county does not have Members of Parliament at all, arguing that none of them have demonstrated the ability to effectively push the region’s concerns to the national agenda.
The preacher also expressed concern that all the MPs in Meru County are men, yet their leadership has failed to meet expectations.
He described the situation as disappointing to residents who had high hopes during the elections.
“I am requesting that in the year 2027 we get to choose women as Members of Parliament across all the constituencies in Meru County,” said Reverend Nathan Kirimi.
