Prof. Jacob Kaimenyi, who was recently appointed as the Meru Principal Mugwe (spiritual leader), has expressed his satisfaction and optimism over the recent leadership transition in Meru County.
Governor Mutuma M’Ethingia took over from former Governor Kawira Mwangaza following the impeachment of the later.
Speaking during a media interview at his Meru residence, Prof. Kaimenyi welcomed the change, describing it as a turning point for the county.
“The change in leadership has brought peace and tranquility to Meru. Change is good—it brings new energy, new ideas, and, most importantly, hope to the people,” he said.
Prof. Kaimenyi made it clear that his appointment as Mugwe is strictly spiritual and not affiliated with any political agenda.
“My role is not political. As the Mugwe, I am a spiritual guide whose responsibility is to direct the Meru people on the path of love, peace, and unity. It is my duty to provide moral guidance and to encourage reconciliation among our people,” Prof. Kaimenyi explained.
He emphasized that a major part of his responsibility is to offer prayers not only for the community but also for the leaders entrusted with power.
“I pray for all people, regardless of their background or status, and especially for those in leadership. When we face challenges such as famine, drought, or unrest, it is my duty to seek God’s intervention on behalf of the people,” he said.
Prof. Kaimenyi also expressed his confidence in the new administration, praising Governor M’Ethingia’s leadership style and immediate attention to pressing concerns.
“I have great faith in the current leadership. Governor M’Ethingia and his team have shown clear intention and commitment to tackle the insecurity and economic hardship that our people have been struggling with,” he noted.
He further called on Meru residents to embrace peace and unity as the county moves forward.
“Now is the time for healing. Let us unite, support one another, and build a community grounded in respect and love. My role as Mugwe is to walk with the people spiritually and ensure that we remain anchored in our values,” said Prof. Kaimenyi.
Prof. Kaimenyi’s appointment as the Principal Mugwe marks a return to strong cultural leadership in Meru, where the spiritual guide plays a central role in upholding moral values, fostering cohesion, and offering prayers during times of celebration or calamity.
