Caxton Miungi has been reelected as the Meru Central KNUT branch executive secretary during a hotly contested election held at Gikumene primary school in Meru town.
Miungi clinched the seat after facing off with three other opponents in an exercise where teachers turned up in large numbers with the event concluding late at night.

Candidates aligned to Miungi swept most of the seats and broke into song and dance after the results were officially announced.
Nathan Ikinyira was elected unopposed as the branch chairman while Alex Mwiti won the vice chairman post.
John Paul Mwiti clinched the assistant executive secretary position while Edward Kirimi was elected unopposed as the treasurer.
Misheck Gatonge sailed unopposed as the assistant treasurer, Kellen Kagwiria won the branch Women Representative seat while
Lillian Makena Riungu won the PWD representative post.
In his acceptance speech, Miungu lauded the teachers for turning out in large numbers to elect their officials and promised to give priority to the teachers welfare.
He said he was humbled after teachers respected the KNUT constitution and choose service delivery and not the age of an individual.
“Meru teachers have shown respect for the KNUT constitution as opposed to individual or age. KNUT is bigger than an individual. Today they have shown they are interested in service delivery and not the age of the candidate. We are not interested with age but service delivery. I will give priority to solving teachers problems and welfare,” said Miungi.
The official also promised to work closely with the national office to ensure the CBA signed between the teachers and the Teachers Service Commission is implemented within two or three years.
He also promised to work harmoniously with other elected branch officials and the national office noting he will support the national office in order to fully benefit.
