Meru County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Finance Monica Kathono has been named among the Top 20 Most Influential Women in Kenya for 2025, according to a list released by Timely Kenya.
Kathono was recognised in the business and entrepreneurship category, alongside automotive engineer Joan Nyambura, philanthropist Florence Akinyi—popularly known as Mama Dota—and entrepreneur Norah Muendo.

Speaking after the announcement, Kathono attributed the recognition to her faith and commitment to public service.
“This is a God-given win. My dedication to God’s ministry, persistence in service delivery, and a results-oriented approach have guided my work,” she said.
Timely Kenya said the 2025 list celebrates women drawn from governance, media, law, business, civil service, sports, and social advocacy who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and made significant contributions to society.
The list features prominent national leaders, including Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti, Auditor-General Nancy Gathungu, Nation Media Group Managing Editor Pamella Sittoni, and nominated Senator Crystal Asige, highlighting women whose influence continues to shape public service and national development.
Other honourees include Royal Media Services journalist Mwanahamisi Hamadi, digital strategist Pauline Njoroge, Immigration Director General Evelyn Cheluget, and Chief Principal Magistrate Stella Atambo, reflecting the growing presence of women in Kenya’s governance and justice sectors.
Women in creative and social impact spaces were also recognised, among them comedian Eunice Mamito, dancer Moesha Kay, and AWOCHE Foundation Chief Executive Officer Everlyne Bowa.
Kenya Wildlife Service officer Mary Muthoni, popularly known as Baby Nila, was honoured for her environmental conservation efforts.
According to Timely Kenya, the selection process was guided by criteria such as societal impact, professional achievement, resilience, leadership qualities, and youth and cultural relevance.
The initiative aims to celebrate women whose work continues to inspire communities and strengthen institutions across the country.
Timely Kenya noted that the survey was sponsored by the organisation as part of its broader effort to promote positive role models and amplify women’s leadership in Kenya in 2025.
