Meru Governor Mutuma M’Ethingia has urged residents of Kaubau in Imenti South Constituency to support President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election, saying the county’s ongoing development projects are a result of close cooperation between the county and national government.

Speaking during a fundraising event in Kaubau, Governor Mutuma said maintaining a good working relationship with the national government has enabled Meru County to secure major projects and funding that are already transforming different sectors across the region.

Mutuma argued that re-electing President Ruto would guarantee continuity of development programs and safeguard the positions of Meru leaders appointed to senior government offices.

“If President William Ruto leaves office in 2027, even people from Meru serving in government positions such as Principal Secretaries will also leave office. That is why I am urging residents to support him so that development projects can continue,” said Mutuma.

The governor also appealed to residents to support his re-election bid in the next polls, saying his administration had made notable progress within the one year he has been in office.

He pointed to the creation of the Nkubu Municipality as one of the key milestones achieved under his leadership, noting that previous administrations had struggled to attain the status for the growing town.

Governor Mutuma noted that his administration has also made progress in improving healthcare services, particularly through efforts to elevate Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital from a Level Five facility to Level Six status.

He said the process has been made possible through collaboration with the national government, adding that the upgrade would improve access to specialized treatment and strengthen healthcare services for residents.

“In one year in office, we have started the process of elevating Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital from Level Five to Level Six status, and this has been made possible by working closely with the national government,” said Mutuma

The governor further highlighted ongoing market modernization projects across the county, saying his administration had secured funding from the Ministry of Housing to improve trading spaces and boost local businesses.

He singled out the planned redevelopment of Gakoromone Market, which he said has received KSh1.2 billion in funding and is expected to become one of the largest markets in East and Central Africa once completed.

Mutuma also spoke about plans to advance Meru town to city status, saying the county government had already made significant progress towards achieving the goal.

In addition, he revealed that the county had secured KSh5.6 billion from the national government to support the construction of a mini city at Mariene in Imenti Central, a project he said would help open up the region and create economic opportunities for residents.

“In Imenti Central, we are building a mini city at Mariene using funds that we secured through President William Ruto’s government. The project will help transform the area and create more opportunities for our people,” said Mutuma M’Ethingia.

The governor maintained that unity among leaders has played a major role in attracting development projects to the county, noting that cooperation with the national government had enabled his administration to lobby for more resources.

He described President Ruto as a visionary leader committed to development and urged residents to continue supporting leaders who work together for the benefit of the county.

Mutuma also defended his own leadership, saying his administration remains focused on transforming Meru through development projects aimed at improving the lives of residents.

“Development is happening in Meru because leaders are working together. I am asking residents to continue supporting us so that we can move this county forward,” said Mutuma
