The County Assembly of Meru has passed a motion meant to pave way for the release of bursary funds to all the needy learners within the devolved unit.
The motion aims to enable the Controller of Budget to approve the disbursement of bursary funds, which had been suspended nationally following concerns over the legal framework governing the allocation of county bursaries.
The Assembly through the Education Committee tabled the motion seeking approval by the controller of budget to release education bursary funds.
Led by the Committee Chairman Nkunja Maore they said the Controller of Budget had given counties policies to streamline before the issuance of funds.
“The counties will now have to toe the line as per the policies set to streamline the issuance of funds.The motion seeks approval by the controller of budget to release education bursary funds to the counties. All is ready now,” said Maore.
Maore scoffed at some individuals claiming to the public that its only governor Isaac Mutuma who had refused to give out bursaries noting the process was stopped some times back by the controller of budget.
They also cautioned former governor Kawira Mwangaza against blaiming other leaders for her tribulations.
Igoji West MCA Mutembei Mbiuki lauded the move and expressed optimism that many learners who had been sent home due to lack of fees will be able to access financial support once the Controller of Budget grants the necessary approval.
