Igembe North MP Julius Taitumu has cautioned leaders against introducing petty politics in the learning institutions since the trend could inevitably lead to the decline of academic performance in the constituency.
The MP said it is wrong for politicians eyeing seats in the forthcoming 2027 general election to start politicking in schools for their own selfish gains without giving priority to the welfare of the learners.
Taitumu said if the trend is not reversed immediately, the constituency risk loosing the enormous gains it has attained in the last three and half years insisting that the area could also witness economic decline, poverty, school dropout and other such vices.
Speaking at Kaelo Technical and Vocational Training Institute (TVC) during it inaugural graduation ceremony, the MP called on all education stakeholders to support the growth of learning institution in the constituency by improving their facilities and enrolling more students to enhance academic performance and economical status.
“Am cautioning leaders and especially politicians against introducing petty politics in learning institution since such a move could inevitably lead to drastic decline in education performance of the entire constituency. The best way to improve education performance in the constituency is by fully supporting the learning institution financially and enrolling more learners. Let us desist from engaging in petty and unnecessary politics for our own selfish political gains yet our children and future generations will suffer,” said MP Taitumu.
He called on all education stakeholders including the clergy, politicians, parents and teachers to unite and work harmoniously to enhance academic performance.
“I urge all the education stakeholders to ensure they support the growth of learning institution in the constituency by helping improve their infrastructure development and enrollment of students to enhance academic performance and economical status. Leaders should desist from introducing petty politics in learning institution. Such a move could inevitably lead to a drastic decline in education performance in the entire constituency. I advise all education stakeholders including the clergy, politicians, parents and teachers to unite and work harmoniously to enhance academic progress in the area,” said Taitumu.
The MP lauded the institution for holding a historical inaugural graduation ceremony noting a record 463 graduated while 800 students were enrolled during the ongoing recruitment exercise countrywide.
He challenged the graduands to shun from waiting for employment and to instead create job opportunities for themselves and residents who have already acquired skilled labour.
Taitumu advised the trainees to use the skills attained at the institution to start businesses, solve problems, provide services and create employment for others.
He also called on the National Government, development partners and the private sector to continue supporting Kaelo TVC insisting that the growth of the institution is an investment to the future and economic fortunes of Igembe North.
“Am extremely excited to grace the historical occasion. The institution has made great strides since it inception. I urge residents to embrace the institution since it is a national institution which is helpful to the residents and the entire country.
To our graduands, I urge you to create employment opportunities and use your skills to start businesses, solve problems, provide services and create employment for others,” said the MP.
He assured all education stakeholders that he remain committed to ensuring that the young people in Igembe North have access to quality education, technical skills and opportunities for economic empowerment.
“We have already made important progress at Kaelo TVC. The construction of the perimeter wall, support towards the KSh 35 million library and the commitment towards a College bus are part of our broader efforts to strengthen this institution.
The MP promised to continue supporting the development of facilities that will provide conducive learning environment and
expand opportunities for trainees.
“My vision is to see Kaelo TVC become a Centre of Excellence in technical skills, mechanical production, automotive technology, innovation and entrepreneurship. Parents should not think this certificate is useless. It will transform you to an employer and innovator,” assured the lawmaker.
Taitumu described Kaelo TVC as a gold mine with booming business including machines being from the locality.
He said the machines at the institution are the best countrywide
insisting that learners should use the machines instead of letting them lie idle.
The MP said of learners at the institution fail to take advantage of the existing machines, others will utilise the chance and train with to improve their employability, gain skills and earn financially.
“Change the perception that tertiary colleges are meant for those who fail to join universities and embrace them. Ensure skills translate to economic transformation. Don’t wait for employment but create them yourself. The ongoing recruitment has enrolled a record 800 students,” said Taitumu.
He said certificate is not the end of the academic journey insisting it is a tool that should enable a learners to create opportunities, earn a livelihood and contribute to the development of the community.
Taitumu reassured residents that he remain committed to ensuring the young people of Igembe North have access to quality education, technical skills and opportunities for economic empowerment.

The MP said Mechanical Production and Automotive facilities, including the Kaelo Main Garage and the Maua and Laare Centres, should not only train our young people but also become centres of production and enterprise.
