Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to bridging the rural-urban development gap following the launch of the Kipkararam Electrification Project in Mogotio Constituency, Baringo County.

The Deputy President, who presided over the official flagging off of project materials earlier today, was accompanied by Mogotio MP Reuben Kiborek and Tiaty MP William Kamket.

The initiative is part of a broader national programme aimed at expanding electricity connectivity to underserved and remote areas.

Addressing residents and local leaders during the event, Prof. Kindiki emphasized that access to reliable electricity is a cornerstone of inclusive development, noting that the government is prioritizing infrastructure that directly improves the quality of life for ordinary citizens.

“Electricity is not just about lighting homes; it is about unlocking opportunity,” he said. “When we connect our rural households to power, we restore dignity, enhance security, and create an enabling environment for education, innovation, and enterprise.”

He added that the Kipkararam Electrification Project will significantly transform the socio-economic landscape of the area by supporting small-scale businesses and improving service delivery.

“Our goal is to ensure that no part of this country is left behind. With reliable power, young people can start and grow businesses, from salons and barber shops to welding and agro-processing ventures. This is how we build a resilient local economy,” Prof. Kindiki stated.

The Deputy President further underscored the government’s focus on empowering communities through targeted investments in energy, roads, and digital infrastructure, describing electrification as a “critical pillar” in achieving sustainable development.

Local leaders welcomed the project, terming it a long-awaited intervention that will spur growth and open up Mogotio constituency to new economic opportunities.

Upon arrival, Prof. Kindiki was received by Eng. Gideon Gitonga, the Central Rift Regional Manager of the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC), who briefed him on ongoing and upcoming electrification initiatives across Mogotio and the larger Baringo County.

The briefing highlighted progress made in grid expansion, last-mile connectivity, and efforts to reach marginalized communities.

Officials from the Central Rift Regional Office and other stakeholders were also present, reflecting a coordinated approach to implementing the project.

The Kipkararam Electrification Project is expected to accelerate connectivity in the area, improve living standards, and contribute to the Government’s broader agenda of equitable national development.
